Take a #Pause
Have you met the new hashtag #pause? We implemented the #pause hashtag campaign after our FB group's post volume quadrupled during COVID-19. We were finding a lot of misinformation, rumors, and articles from questionable sources were being posted, which were causing a lot of hype, anxiety, and disrespectful debate when emotions were high.
We've asked that everyone take a #pause before posting - or before responding/commenting and considering the consequences.
.
We care that the information that's being posted on the group is high quality and accurate, that the donations people are giving are worthwhile, and that humor is mixed in to provide a little comic relief.

And this is not just an admin duty, but a collective responsibility. COVID-19 is, after all, a soberly serious matter. With 160.K posts, comments and reactions on the group at its peak - almost quadruple the regular amount - the feed can be full of negative anxiety-inducing material, or it can helpful, encouraging, and informative, while still being entertaining.
We all have the opportunity to shape this. So, think about what type and how much media you are consuming and passing along.
The support, generosity, activism, resourcefulness and creativity shown during the pandemic by our residents and members is so uplifting inspiring! Thank you to all the people still working and risking to take care of others. Stay safe - and #pause to remain calm.
